Chris Bowman

born in North Carolina, attended Berklee College of Music before moving to New York in 1981, where he became involved in studio sessions and the downtown music scene. He co-founded Shock Exchange with Dave Bryant and John Turner in the early eighties. Their first albumn was graced by liner notes by Ornette Coleman. During this time, Chris worked and recorded with Jon Hassell’s Fourth World Music, Paul Bley, Annette Peacock, Percy Jones, Jane Ira Bloom, Ratzo Harris, Larry Rivers, Frank Kimbrough, Dave Binney, Neil Leonard, Leo Smith, Major Lance, Bucky Pitzirelli as well as being a member of the 80's alternative group "Crimes of Passion". The Sunday morning PUC Sessions w/ Chris Lane', Peter Bettner, Carl Adami and Harvey Jones. Extended Shock family gigs included Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Bern Nix, George Garzone, Badal Roy, and Bob Gullotti. In the mid 90's "Urban Survival" was formed in NYC with Eric Olsen - piano and Jim Donica - bass. The group has two cd's avaliable .... Urban Survival and US Storry Hill which can be found on cd baby. Chris also performs with " Mr. Rusty" a Danish Fueled Fusion Project as well as, gigs with Big Joe Fitz Blues Review and guitarist John Bruschini. In December of 2006, Dave Binney and CHBO released a three song ep of duets from a long running recording project ...www. davebinney.com on MythologyRecords. Chris has session credits with AT&T, Burger King, Ford, Kit Kat, Sesame Street, Legg’s, and the Showtime channel, working with such artists as Lenny Pickett, Grady Tate, Steve Kahn, Luther Vandross, and Patti Austin. He was guest percussionist on The System’s “Don’t Disturb This Groove” on Atlantic Records and can be heard on Dave Bryant’s “Eternal Hang” on Accurate Records which recieved 4 stars in DownBeat Magazine and was listed in the Boston Top 10 Jazz Albumns of that year.. In 1987, Chris founded CHBO Inc., the NYC-based acoustical design and construction firm with over 170 audio and video rooms to its credit.. www.CHBOINC.com Chris has preformed and sessioned in venus as deverse as the President's Palace in Bucerest, Rominia ; Blue's Alley in DC, NYC's Birdland, The Village Gate, CBGB's, Danceteria, CatClub, SOB's, Berkes Jazz Festival, Holerin House, NYC; Berklee Performance Center, Boston, The Market Loft Sessions, SF California, Newbury Opera House, SC ; Symphony Space, The Knitting Factory NYC and has worked with engineers such as Tom Lazuras, Mike Crehore, Jimmy Fur Coat Goodman, Mark Christiansen and Roger Nichols. November 2005 brought the opening of Jack and Luna's cafe' in Stone Ridge, NY .... a design collaboration between Chris and his wife, Julie ..... a breakfast and lunch hot spot ; offering acoustic jazz on the weekends .... the room has been set up as a house gig with alternating quest artists .... check out www.jackandlunas.com for upcoming events.
